We provide end-to-end assistance for manufacturers and importers seeking certification under the Bureau of Indian Standards - Compulsory Registration Scheme (BIS-CRS). Our comprehensive support spans from pre-inspection activities to the final product certification, ensuring compliance with BIS regulations and seamless market access in India.
Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act of 2016:
The Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) falls under Scheme II of Schedule II of the BIS Regulation Act 2016. Established in 2012, CRS aims to ensure the quality and safety of designated products entering the Indian market.
Unlike some certification schemes, CRS operates as a self-declaration scheme, meaning manufacturers or importers declare compliance with BIS standards without periodic factory audits.
CRS is mandatory for certain products, with a total of 77 items identified by four Ministries: MEITY, MCF, MNRE, under BIS Scheme-II. Compliance with CRS is essential for legal market access in India.
Under the Bureau of Indian Standards - Compulsory Registration Scheme (BIS-CRS), multiple products have been notified by different ministries including MEITY, MCF, and MNRE.
Mobile phones, laptops, tablets, LED lamps, microwave ovens, printers, scanners, and more.
Refrigerators, washing machines, vacuum cleaners, electric irons, kitchen appliances, and water heaters.
Automotive tires, batteries, safety glass, tubes, oils, and other automobile components.
Cement, steel, and various building materials used in construction projects.
Adhesives, paints, varnishes, lubricating oils, and other industrial chemical products.
Solar photovoltaic modules and systems used in renewable energy applications.
Anyone who manufactures or imports products covered under the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) can apply for BIS certification.
The manufacturing unit or factory producing notified products and intending to sell or export them to India must apply for an 8-digit Registration Number from BIS.
Once certified, manufacturers can display the Standard Mark with the unique Registration Number on their products.
Register on the BIS Portal and obtain login credentials.
Generate Test Request Form and select an accredited laboratory.
Submit product samples for testing and evaluation.
Receive test report and Test Report Number from the lab.
Upload reports and submit online documentation with fee payment.
BIS verifies compliance and issues the Registration Number.
Total estimated timeframe for CRS registration process.

The BIS-CRS certificate is generally granted for a minimum period of 2 years.
Manufacturers can renew the certificate for additional periods of 2, 3, 4, or 5 years based on their business requirements.
This renewal process helps manufacturers maintain uninterrupted market access and continued compliance with BIS standards.
